    5G conspiracy theorists have made work hell for the UK's telecoms engineers. There's been hundreds of incidents of abuse, as well as razor blades in hidden in telephone poles and arson attacks on mobile infrastructure. My story on what's happening:

    also unrelated, but it seems likely that this sort of criticism ("simplified into jerks") helped define jerk as derogatory american slang. Etymology Online says this origin is uncertain , but cites similar mechanized labor and the time period fits

    also reminded me of the somewhat obvious truth that one of Amazon's key warehouse innovations, keeping pickers in one place while robots cart shelves of products to them, is just an update of Ford's assembly lines, which similarly moved goods through static humans

    this excellent piece from on what mechanization does to labor reminded me of this 1932 report on Henry Ford's assembly lines: "I shall never be able to look another Tin Lizzie in the face without shuddering at the memory of Henry's manikins"
