Do you think someone yelling a “compliment” across the street whilst you’re walking is a compliment?

Yea I would, builders do it and I smile, we’re all different. Which is why I said I’m not expecting her to be me or share my opinions. Just that maybe think of things from other people’s perspectives first and things might not be so doom and gloom.

It was perhaps an innocent compliment from his perspective that meant no harm but she’s made her assumptions and vilified him and suffered her own negative emotions because of her own assumptions.

You don’t actually know how I feel, you’ve never checked in, simply made assumptions. I brought to light one of the many unsolicited nonsense messages I get in various forms every day. If you disagree, you could just move along

If you disagreed with him you could have just moved along too. But this is the internet, if you post shit, people reply

No, this behaviour truly is problematic in a society where street harassment is normalised. We’re only starting to change the social acceptance of this. Compliments are great in a social setting, but when you’re receiving a service or I’m selling something, it’s not right.

People are being groped and raped and shamed into a lifetime of silence because of their sexuality... it’s almost insulting to put what people are going through in the same context as a hair compliment

It’s a spectrum and allowing creeps creates assaults. It’s about power, not compliments

Uh huh, I think you’re both misunderstanding me entirely. I agree, creepy behaviour should not be tolerated. But what dictates what’s creepy? Opinion. And we can’t expect everyone to know our ibdividual opinions, that’s unrealistic

So, you respect my opinion that I perceived someone as being creepy that you would perceive as being complimentary?

Yes, I respect your opinion but thought maybe you might consider seeing things from a more positive perspective. I’m obviously flogging a dead horse here though. Let’s all just be friends and move on
