Trouble is, in the sense that it’s frequently cited as a source, it *is* a publishing platform. I’m sure journalists would love for it to be more informal, but unfortunately it isn’t.

Sorry Jim, I'm a fan but I don't buy this. Robert P and Laura K have 1m+ twitter followers each. What they report *is* broadcasting. They have a responsibility for what they say. No politician would get away with that excuse.

I remember when I first joined Twitter (late) someone told me I shouldn't tweet what I wouldn't publish. I still fall short of that occasionally, at weekends, but never when it comes to accuracy. The biggest, gnawing fear as a journalist is getting something wrong imo

I got a story very wrong a few years ago and ate shit for it and it haunts me with every single thing I write or tweet.
