  1. Conservative position on over-75s paying the licence fee is heavily shaped by accidentally copying-and-pasting a pledge to protect pensioners from the 2015 manifesto into the 2017 snap election manifesto. They didn't have the power to protect them but set up a nice row with BBC.

  2. John Birt, former director general of the BBC, has turned up at Nicky Morgan’s speech and is giving his own brief speech on the BBC’s history starting at the 1926 general strike.

  3. Nicky Morgan confirms the TV licence fee model will continue until 2027 but after that point she suggests the direction of travel is towards some other way of funding the BBC.

  4. Culture secretary Nicky Morgan: “The media likes nothing more than talking about the media.” Outrageous attack by the government on the free press.

  6. BuzzFeed identifies *another* occasion where Ribeiro-Addy was captioned as de Cordova. Which means Getty Images was carrying two different sets of photos by two photographers, filed within three days of each other, independently making same mistake.

  8. Children's television viewing is falling off a *cliff* as they just mainline YouTube instead. This is the change in just one year, counted as hours of broadcast television consumed per week.

If the Standard is correct, this isn't the first time that Getty Images - the wire services that supplies most of the country's news outlets with editorial pictures - has fed out the wrong photos of a black Labour MP. Their errors then get magnified.

The BBC wrongly identified a black female Labour MP, then the Evening Standard wrote a story about the BBC mistake and used a photo of a *different* wrong black female Labour MP, now the Standard is blaming major photo agency Getty Images who they say *also* made that mistake.

Citigroup suspends a banker for stealing sandwiches from the office canteen. I'm now absolutely terrified after the time I was caught buttering toast in the Guardian canteen after forgetting to pay the butter surcharge.

To add to the weirdness, the Chinese state media is apparently making its cheery content using fake footage from a 2016 YouTube video. So the thing that was weird for creepiness and bad taste is also... not true.

Reverse engineering the Iowa story from delirious US political reporter tweets: no one understands the caucus system so they made an app but it was a bad app and because no one understands the system every candidate is claiming victory and/or hinting there’s a conspiracy. Cool.
