Friends: I wrote a book, "The Riches of This Land," about the group of heroes who built the great American middle class - and how they are the key to rebuilding it from our current crisis. I'd be honored if you read it. It's out August 11. Pre-order here:

Biden, in a press conf, is leaning heavily into the idea that deteriorating economic conditions this winter will bring Republicans to the table on more stimulus talks once he's president. “They’re going to find that there’s an overwhelming need as the numbers skyrocket”

The mantra from Joe Biden and his team is that Congress needs to cut an aid deal for the economy -- and then do it again come January:

The closest thing to a silver lining I could come up with? The retail employment drop is a seasonal adjustment effect, so in January the people who didn't get hired as temporary holiday help won't lose their jobs. Merry Christmas.

BREAKING: The US added back 245,000 jobs in November, the slowest pace yet and a red flag that momentum is waning. The unemployment rate fell to 6.7% (similar to 2014 levels). Overall ~56% of jobs lost in the spring have returned.

The labor force participation rate edged down to 61.5 percent in November; this is 1.9 percentage points below its February level. The employment-population ratio, at 57.3 percent, changed little over the month but is 3.8 percentage points lower than in February.

There is a humanitarian crisis unfolding in Guatemala and Honduras. Back to back storms affected 5 million people, including 1.5 million children, creating a new class of refugees who lost everything — and have more reason than ever to migrate

We need a good/catchy name for the Manchin-Murkowski Romney-Collins-Cassidy-Warner bipartisan relief group behind the $908 billion proposal. "Gang of 6" maybe makes some sense? But its membership seems to vary too much for that to really work. Anybody got ideas?
