1. Ensure the dialogue is two-way:
Only speaking "at" your community when you have news or something to say is not it. Conversations are two-way.
Make them feel comfortable coming to you with their own thoughts and feedback. Community needs to feel listened to and supported.

2. Moderation is your friend:
Community management can be such a rewarding experience, but it can also be very taxing and difficult.
Take advantage of automatic moderation where appropriate, especially if you're a community management team of just one person.

Bots that will help make your chat a welcoming place by removing comments that use "banned words" or "offensive terms."
I've also set up auto roles in Discord so people can select their preferred pronouns. Even when you're talking to digital avatars, use the right terms.

3. Check your community knows what is expected:
Not all social cues and expectations are obvious, especially online. Drafting a list of "Community Guidelines," the dos and don'ts of your community, is such a powerful resource.

I want to build inclusive spaces where people feel safe, supported, and heard. If you're not about that, even if you've bought every single one of our games, our community is not for you.
