If looking for more speed, don’t be afraid to experiment w/ mechanics. It doesn’t mean your student has to apply them to the swing long-term, but it can help identify low-hanging fruit. From there, you can decide if it makes sense to help your student build it into their swing.

"Unfortunately the club is not connected to the lower body, it's connected to the hands... You could be casting the club and it wouldn't matter how much force you create..."

Higher GRF, but not higher CHS? Evaluating a golfer’s physical capabilities, technique and kinematic sequence can help identify reasons why increasing ground reaction force might not be resulting in faster clubhead speeds. 🔎 Assess, don’t guess.

Fun day with the boys yesterday up at Conestoga. Striking the ball well, leaving way too many shots out there but having a blast. Just have to work harder.
If we look at vertical movement of the pelvis on AMM3D, we see that most PGA TOUR players will squat 1-2” around transition and then thrust ~4” vertically on the downswing. It’s one of Rory’s signature power moves and clearly evident in Saso’s swing too.

Yuka Saso at -1 at T4 here early on. Would be appointment viewing to watch this swing all weekend:

In case you hear that golfers shouldn’t lift weights or shouldn’t lift in-season, here was Adam Scott at TPI on Saturday (he also came in during the week). Squats, pull-ups, military press to name a few (plus intense core/mobility work). He’s T2 going into the weekend

Almost 7 pm on a Saturday & Adam Scott is grinding in the TPI gym. The golfers who make it look easy on the course are usually the ones who commit to the hard stuff off of it. As Nick Saban says, “if you want to be good, you don’t have a lot of choices. It takes what it takes.”

A special athlete and deserving champion. Strong, mobile and explosive, DJ is a great example of how elite physical capabilities create the potential for efficient technique and power. Congrats to he and his team!

The ball flight is the biggest indicator in whether you’re doing a good job with your swing change or not. Don’t worry so much about what it looks like visually. Leave that to your coach. Trust the ball flight. If the dispersion is consistently tighter, that’s all that matters.

One of the most underrated aspects of making a swing change - especially when pain was present - is the mental fortitude required to do it. Patrick Cantlay is one of the most mentally tough athletes we’ve worked with.

Mookie has Rory-esque pelvis speeds. Two different sports, but two equally impressive rotational athletes.

Mookie has some of the most efficient and exceptional kinematics in baseball. 1) He’s not only efficient (1-2-3-4), he’s absurdly fast. His rotational speeds - specifically his peak pelvis speed - is one of the fastest we’ve ever seen in a hitter.

"If you think lifting weights is dangerous, try being weak. Being weak is dangerous." -

It is hard to substantially move the needle on clubhead speed and distance if you view and train golfers as though they are fragile. Ironically, by avoiding stress in the gym, you will have a golfer that is less prepared to deal with stress on the course and in everyday life.

A leader doesn’t doesn’t look to criticize, a leader accepts criticism and learns. A leader doesn’t look for praise, a leader offers praise. A leader doesn’t ask for trust, a leader earns your trust. We all have those who need us to love them and lead them. Be a leader
