When doing a rotational forceps birth from occipito-posterior position, scan to see where the spine is first, even if you're sure it's OP on palpation,. Minimise harm due to long rotation. @Christoph_Lees taught me this. #ObAphorism

Rotational forceps is considered obsolete in The Netherlands. Moreover, forceps is considered obsolete. Too much obstetrical damage. Do ventouse (rotational ventouse) or CS.

Although the main reason probably is that both have suffered from a scary and rapidly growing lack of skills! As for that matter is the case with many other techniques in our specialty (version & extraction, vaginal hysterectomy, tubal surgery, etc, etc)

True. Although for some procedures ‘lack of skills’ is not a problem as even skilled gynaecologists shouldn’t do them anymore... 😉

LUNA, frenotomy, circumcision. Any others? Go on, make a list. :)

Where do you want us to go on? You now seem to have made a list of rightfully obsolete procedures? I was actually referring to useful skills that sadly are becoming or already have become extinct!

I was hoping you'd say vaginal breech, symphysiotomy, rotational forceps, vaginal hysterectomy, & prolapse repair with mesh. I was then going to say that they all still had a (small) place. :)

But do you mean this also applies to LUNA?

LUNA is absolutely obsolete isn't it. Surely @GynaeResearcher's LUNA trial blew it away completely.https://ripe-tomato.org/2016/03/31/irrational-surgery/ …
