Standardizing SMS for OTP is a terrible idea — it normalizes use of an authenticator with known vulnerabilities. Better to pursue alternatives.

I don’t think their reasoning is sound. Or perhaps someone paid for this suggestion? Instagram should disclose if so. /cc ⁦

Obviously "turning off" off-Facebook activity means that they just pretend they don't have it. If they actually stopped collecting it, they wouldn't be able to show this.

. Bummer: those of us in California have to wait 3 hours past when folks on the East Coast get to watch your endorsement show. Guess I’ll have to monitor Twitter for the spoilers.

Amused that website sells tea towels with her hot dish recipe and Amy for America ice scrapers. You bet she’s from Minnesota! But how do you install the lawn signs when the ground is frozen?

"removing the need for trusted intermediaries" is an example of software/tech solutionists who keep forgetting tech exists only in a human world with humans in it, and that humans create technology + software you'll always need to figure out how you can trust the humans

Yes, I’m sure the lawyers who ran this ad (on the NYTimes app) can help get out of California traffic tickets written by the German Polizei.

Phishing email supposedly from Spotify. But the From address just has Spotify in the Friendly Name, not the email address (which many mail clients don't display) so DMARC doesn't help. Part of why I'm lukewarm on DMARC.

If Iran decides to escalate with a cyberattack, it will probably start with phishing. So be extra vigilant about not clicking on things in email unless you’re *certain* it came from someone you trust.
