Sorry, I didn't mean to ignore this earlier. To elaborate — different areas of the state function independently of each other, and there's not a lot of people who want simultaneous daily coverage of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Fresno

In addition, although California is huge, it simply isn't its own country. In fact, it's massively dependent on the federal government. Covering local issues requires a national presence.
