Uh yeah I hear things are easier nowadays but that was all just about par for the course back when I was a first year. You’d get shamed for taking a day off or going to the gym, expected to stay late w/ no work. Granted Away employees were getting nowhere near the same comp.
Imagine being a first year investment banking analyst and reading the piece on Away lmao

Base salaries post-‘08 were 70k a year. A heck of a lot more than 40k, sure, but also those 100 hour weeks tho.

The difference is that a banker would be told “have this turned to me by X.” No pretext of joining a movement, feedback, career mobility, etc. It’s the tone cloaked in save the world terminology that is shitty. And the compensation between the two is apples to oranges...

THIS!! In banking it was crystal clear what game was being played without a smoke screen. In tech it sometimes feels like there’s a game on top of the game where we’re not supposed to acknowledge the actual game.

Ah you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself. When you go into IB, you know exactly what you're getting into - there are no false promises or hopes. The time you spend barely getting through alive is compensated for when you get offered a 200k plus job in the end.
