Today is Thomas and Jude's birthday. T is turning 4, but Jude isn't. He died on May 6/16 from flu B. He was a perfectly healthy two-year-old. Today I get to spoil T when he's home from school, but I'll never get to hug Jude again. Let me tell you about him. /1

Growing up, I ❤️’d school. My experiences there with my teachers shaped me as a person. I want that for all Ontario kids. This government needs to get their priorities straight, FAST! Supporting teachers today with hand warmers, warm smiles & support. – mjesto: Thomas Street Middle School

Protect public education so we don't have to supplement privately. Compensate teachers fairly. Meet commitments to families in the autism community. Reinstate two paid sick days so lower-income and precarious workers can afford to stay home when sick. Eliminate sick notes.

We need to rethink our attitudes about work and health, and which is more important. We need to do a better job of caring about ourselves and each other. We all deserve better than what we're doing now. 12/12

The average flu hospitalization costs ~$14,000. Last year Ontario had ~5000 flu hospitalizations. This doesn't factor in the cost of visits to clinics, GPs, walk-ins, and ERs, or the loss of life. We are pouring out money on preventable illness instead of protecting health. 11/12

It doesn't have to be this hard. There is no day of work that is more important than someone's health. There is no day of work that is more important than someone's life. We can do better, but we have to choose to. We have to care more about people than we do now. 9/12

In 2018 I was part of the deputations. I talked about Jude, but I also talked about growing up in a single-parent low-income home. I talked about putting myself through university on minimum wage and loans, and hard choices when I was sick. 8/12

I work from home and don't need protected , but my child died because of an outbreak at school. One sick kid led to dozens of sick kids in May, after influenza B had passed from one person to the next for months. This year, that year, every year. 7/12

Because we're all in this together. We share the same space. We take the same public transit. We go to the same coffee shops. Our kids go to school together. We buy groceries in the same stores. We are in contact with each other constantly and illness (like flu) spreads easily. 6

That's what this legislation means. has rolled back labour protections that not only put people's jobs at risk, but also put the rest of us at risk. How? 5/12

If you get sick for more than 3 days in an entire year, you could lose your job. If your child(ren) have more than 3 sick days in an entire year, you could lose your job. Your partner/mom/child died? Sorry for your loss, see you Wednesday. Or you could lose your job.

One sick child in a classroom can quickly become a classroom full of sick children. One sick person in a workplace can quickly become a workplace full of sick people. If the person who makes your coffee can't afford to take a , they'll go to work and make your coffee. 2/

One of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of illness it to stay home when you're sick. made less affordable and accessible, forcing more sick people into workplaces, classrooms, and public space. This affects everyone. 1/

This government has prioritized a lot of things over public education. There’s nothing I care more about than our kids and protecting the future of Ontario. We proudly continue to stand with our education workers. Strikes are temporary, forever.

Flu activity continues at higher than usual levels, with influenza A and B circulating at the same time. This is a tough season, and it isn't too late to protect yourself and everyone you come in contact with. Get your and take all possible steps.

Flu rate graphs comparing this season to last year. Both A and B are circulating at high levels.

Health officials are telling us to stay home if we're sick. But many workers would be fired or lose their pay if they do! When we hit the streets this past week, workers are saying loud and clear: 3 unpaid sick days a year are not enough!
