This is what's scary. We got our voters out and it will be at best a razor-thin EC win and probable GOP Senate. And the failure of so many well-financed Senate candidates makes it implausible that Biden, while he was far from my first choice, is the main problem.https://twitter.com/DavidOAtkins/status/1323925023413858307 …

Progressives will recriminate against centrists and vice versa, but all Dem factions have to contend with this: Turnout was high. The prog base showed up like progs want. There was huge cross-partisan outreach like mods want. But Trump activated a MASSIVE racist/sexist vote.

It seems likely, for example, that Bernie has better Hispanic outreach -- but looks like Biden won AZ/NV anyway, TX wasn't close, and in FL Bernie would have done even worse. Hard to see what state has a different outcome if he had one the primary.

Warren was my first choice, but again not obvious where she does better plus there's the misogyny wild card. You can tell just-so stories about Booker or Castro but hard to assume someone would have an unusual WAR as a candidate when they get zero traction in the primaries.

The GOP have put together a large minority faction that benefits from basically every anti-democratic feature of American constitutionalism and that's just very, very hard to overcome especially when a series of contingencies gave them a hammerlock on the federal judiciary.

I don't think the support for Trump was that hard to understand. A lot of people just like racist sexist crap.

To understand where we are, look at FL: 60% support for a prog Dem idea of $15 min wage, yet they voted for the narcissistic sociopath speaking to their primal, inchoate fears. If your rational mind isn't your primary residence, you're easy prey for someone like Trump.

Um Bernie got absolutely creamed with Florida Latinos. I don't know why on Earth you'd bring him up as if he'd done better in Florida. I'm a socialist, a Mexican-American, & a Californian & just no. Bernie only got 22% of vote in Florida primary. US Latinos are not a monolith.

It’s not irrational for men and white people to vote for candidates who’ll preserve the benefits they enjoy as men and white people, any more than it is for rich people to support candidates who’ll look after the interests of the rich.
