I recently went to @PPFA for my annual ladyparts exam and it was SO REFRESHING after 7 years of military medicine. My provider self-identified as queer, they asked my pronouns upfront, and all the questions about sexual health were framed inclusively.
This is in contrast to repeatedly being called "Sir" at the Naval WOMEN'S CLINIC, awkward silences in response to standard questions during exams in military clinics, and a general sense of unease accessing military health services throughout my career.
I was an officer - a Captain - and I felt uncomfortable. Imagine how a 17 or 18-year-old junior servicemember feels in those scenarios -and how it impacts their likelihood of seeking services when they need them.
