A little about my journey... When I got to OCS, Congress had passed the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, but it had not been fully implemented. A few weeks in, I learned that President Obama had certified the repeal, officially ending the policy. #NationalComingOutDay
As we were discussing the news, one of the other officer candidates asked me loudly, “Goldbeck, can I ASK you a question?” I replied, “Sure, I'll TELL you the answer.” She asked, "Are you gay, Goldbeck?" I responded, "H*** yes I am!" #NationalComingOutDay
Everyone cracked up. Then we got back to prepping for training the next day. It mattered a lot, and it didn’t matter at all. I want every American to have this opportunity - to live their life authentically and pursue their dreams, regardless of who they are or who they love.
