Welp. Turns out the authors didn't talk to the "asymptomatic" woman, who...says she had symptoms from . Caution urged when extrapolating from a single or small number of studies on a new virus, y'all. One detail can change the picture.

We talked to a dozen patient families. What we heard was sheer desperation. Some could only watch their beloved one die at home. Some patients had to walk hours to the hospital. Some patients had to wait in the hospital for 14 hours. The words came up most are 等 and 没办法。

Something to keep in mind about the : the confirmed cases in Wuhan are going to hit a limit. They are low on tests and even if they weren’t the manpower to actually test ten of thousands of suspected cases is too great. The numbers we are hearing are a minimum.

Not sure who needs to hear this but if your terminal cursor has disappeared type `reset` and hit enter and you'll clear your output and get your cursor back.

This project is a great example of how Sybil attacks can be performed using large numbers of real devices. No reverse engineering of mobile apps nor programming nor hacking is required. Do the math on the cost of cheapest device you support and profit.

Has any written a simple service for use with nix post-build-hook and `nix copy` to handle queuing, signing and uploading? Seems like an easy enough thing to write, which is why I'm surprised I can't find anything.

just saw a Bloomberg ad where he goes into a deli and orders a “chopped cheese with extra soft fries” , then he asks if he can eat it in the bathroom. And he opens up the sandwich and he says “I’ve been eating like this for 40 years.” Then he tries to smile and says “I’m mike”

Worrying. China has the resources to fight this in ways countries like the Philipines do not.

I want a postgres client I can really squeeze perf out of and fully supports all the features of libpq and is memory safe. I don’t think we have that atm.

I need to see how the prepared statements functionality works as well. I would like it to only prepare the statements once for the whole session but I don’t think it works that way. I feel like there is a thin layer of poatgresql-libpg that is missing in the Haskell ecosystem.

Playing with hasql and I am somewhat disappointed to learn it is higher level than postgresql-simple. I speak of the Session monad. I understand the justifications but moving from IO to monad that wraps ReaderT IO brings with it a host of pain. I’d rather stick to IO at first.

You can use the Cloth Brush directly on meshes with millions of vertices by tweaking the simulation's limits and falloff. The solver ignores everything outside the limits and the cloth will automatically change its elasticity in the falloff area to avoid artifacts.

Learned from : avoid the Enum instance of Haskell's NominalDiffTime. The Int overflows at hundreds of days. ghci> import Data.Time.Clock (nominalDay) ghci> fromEnum (106 * nominalDay) 9158400000000000000 ghci> fromEnum (107 * nominalDay) -9201944073709551616

I’m starting to doubt if postgresql-simple will be my go to anymore. The lack of support for arrays of composite types can be a deal breaker.
