Browsed for a moment at my own tweets from early March 2020 and ugh, it's terrible.https://twitter.com/zeynep/status/1235294145134067714 …

Yet, here we are at the cusp of perhaps significant spread in the US and there aren't enough masks even for health care workers, testing is still not there, firefighters are responding to cases with no protective gear and getting infected, and we're trailing in all measures. Ugh.

I know this is over-optimistic but I have this tiny glimmer of hope that people will notice who was right and who was wrong a year ago, and draw some conclusions from that.

I cannot think of a single instance of this holding true over a lifetime of observing politics and civil society.

I think everybody involved has been wrong at times on this, including me. Rather than noting who was right or wrong I would respect the people who approached the topic with humility, understood and admitted to the uncertainties, and tried to ignore partisan tendencies.

Some people have been quite right over and over again (I would include @zeynep and @edyong209 in that category). Some people have been quite wrong over and over again. I think there are lessons there, even if it hasn’t been 100% for either group. It’s not close to equivalent.
