in my late teens, early twenties i was enraptured by FightClub. I wondered what unidentifiable packs of disenfranchised nihilists could evoke in a post-turmoil society. turns out, its turmoil. pointless, meaningless turmoil. moral of the story: contrarianism is bullshit.

im particularly squicked out by the speech Tyler gives attendees about how they all expected to be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars and how they're very pissed off.

I’ve always felt that movie is two stories in one. One story is about mental illness, and finding happiness where you can. The second is about privilege and how to see it in yourself. Tyler *starts* there, where white middle class kids are, and builds them into something new.
