today i am going to try to get paged, LOD'd procedural generation working for some simple noise based terrain. the one thing i am unsure of is how to seed the noise. i might go back to cantor pairs? that's what we did for http://inflorescence.city  2. or hashes? cc @everestpipkinpic.twitter.com/XZnXstZce1

I don't recall where I got this from anymore, but this is my favorite way to get deterministic noise. The quality is quite good for the simplicity. Gives a float between 0 and 1.pic.twitter.com/EcrzshqaEq

I've used murmurhash for this in the past - it seemed a good balance between speed and randomness. The code is open source and short enough to just paste in, from what I remember

ohh what is this doing? is ^= exclusive or with assignment, so in the first line it'd set c to c XOR d? then what is the second part doing? i like this, it's like looking at the inside of a clock

i have one other question, this one about use- what values of a, b, c does one pass in? this is more like a hash, right? it's not like a linear congruential generator, where you maintain external seed values?

since we are sharing, one of my favorites is this extremely simple deterministic generator. this is an OOP version but you can do this with a global seed value.pic.twitter.com/291BlPYgGr
