1. My first proper job, at a startup, I logged in to the load balancer and took down its network interface, bringing down the whole website. Had to get a taxi to the data centre to go and turn it back on through the console. 2. Huh, you were good, and passed with few tens of dollars/pounds/whatever for taxi. I've done same thing in hosting across ocean, ended up paying remote hands 1h 250 USD, just to restart my net interface.

As a summer intern I damn near closed down all the ATMs of a national level bank. Smaller nation than US, but I was still fine taking the gentle joking for the rest of the summer from the older guys.
