  1. Male students are more likely than female ones both to ask for grade changes and to receive them, per the new research referenced. Unlike female students, some male students also threaten violence when they don’t get them, per this horrifying thread.

Customer development is shockingly, wildly under practiced IRL. People talk a lot about customer empathy, then go build something for 10 months and are sad when no one or not enough people want it. It's very humbling to talk to real people.

But let me just say: a man who committed a sexual assault and who subsequently changed into a better human *will not mind people talking about how awful his mistakes were*

Nigerian immigrants are by far the most educated immigrant group in the US. Over 20% have *graduate* degrees. But... They're also black. So due to the "travel ban" Nigerians will no longer be allowed to get green cards. The ban was never about security.

Experts estimate such squandering eats up about $765 billion a year—as much as a quarter of all the country’s health care spending...

Disease outbreaks serve as a Rorschach test for people’s bigotry. At least now you know who is easily swayed to say racist shit about East Asians so you can cut them out of your life. Happy new year!

In particular, attached is the LFD ("little friendly diagram", the little sibling to the BFD at ) from p57 of the 2019 State of DevOps report which shows how to impact individual productivity and the effect of doing so.

You should definitely check out the 2019 State of DevOps report though, where we discuss our research on how to improve individual productivity:

In the 2019 State of DevOps report, we define individual productivity as "the ability to get complex, time-consuming tasks completed with minimal distractions & interruptions." You can survey people & ask them about the extent to which they agree with this statement (Likert-type)

I haven’t seen this stat before in any of the coverage or in people talking about this, have I just not been paying attention? All the discussion I’ve seen has been about the impossibility of Australia decarbonizing due to exports...

Apparently Australia gets 93% of its energy from fossil fuels (vs 80% average for OECD countries). Surely moving to solar is both feasible and would drive job creation and growth?
