Nah, Dreamcast wasn't dead when it sold. Not in the East or the West. Buying Dreamcast games was still a thing just a bit longer... but it wasn't another year or two later we were all burning those gd-roms having stacks of games.
Hell, when the PS2 had been under-manufactured and was hard to get at launch, people thought there was a legitimate chance it would be a life ring for the Dreamcast. It was discussed a ton on websites and big news papers. It was in USA Today. But people saved their money for PS2
