The @Hover_the_Game devs have not explained how FRIENDS work in detail but I’m starting to figure it out.
When you connect online you are given a Cross-Platform key, this is an identity for the server ROOM.

PAUSE the game and in the lower right is a 
PENCIL icon.
You will be shown your current Cross-Platform key. However, you can also ‘Enter Join Key’.
Right now my key is o1b68a.
Add this 
key & you will join my room at this current moment.

... now if you check your current key it is the key you entered because the key is the room. And the room holds 16 people max.

So all we need to do in order to play together is to start sharing room KEYS on twitter and joining rooms!!!

Actually this is a way to do it but the idea with friends is that now when you play online the matchmaking will try to put you in the same room than your Switch friends also now you can make a friendsonly room that only you, your friends and the friends of you friends can join
Can you add a system were you can add friends on hover thats not on the same console as u
