      I took a visit to try HoloLens 2 in Seattle at @Microsoft’s headquarters. Here’s my story: https://www.cnet.com/news/microsoft-hololens-2-feels-like-practical-magic/ … #MWC2019

      And here’s more on the $3,500 HoloLens 2: details and also, a big story from @iansherr. https://www.cnet.com/news/hololens-2-ar-headsets-announced-for-3500-available-to-preorder-now-ship-later-this-year/ … #MWC2019

I tried 3 demos, talked with @akipman about the future of mixed reality, and got to spend a whole day with the team...and we toured the Human Factors Lab to see HoloLens prototypes. See above for all the thoughts vs @magicleap.

The headset’s 52 degree field of view is better than @magicleap and significantly better than the first HoloLens. Hand tracking is a lot more solid. Comfort’s far better. It works with glasses!

No physical controller or haptics. @akipman says that’s of great interest, and at some point, it’ll happen. (But not yet)

I met with Spatial recently, demoing its new software on stage. I tried an early version of the company’s updated coworking software on a HoloLens 1. It leans on more cloud connectedness- and collaborative work on phones. More on that soon. It’s pretty impressive.

Personally think @magicleap and @Microsoft are both key. Id and ego. The crazy stuff needs to go in hand with practical considerations.

Notably, this isn’t a 5G device, and isn’t meant for cellular. Wi-Fi based. But it seems set up for the next step to 5G once things are there. @akipman discussed how more cloud processing will improve headset’s graphics/accuracy over time.

Some thoughts using Dynamics 365 Guides to have me fix an ATV in a demo: it weirdly make me think of Nintendo Labo. But also...turn by turn directions like Google Maps. Would I absorb the training?

Reminded of this great story by @KentGerman on The Knowledge. https://www.cnet.com/news/london-taxi-drivers-with-the-knowledge-arent-fazed-by-uber/ … When it comes to AR guidance, will be absorb the information?

The Guides app showed me what to do with floating 3D arrows that drifted to real things. But didn’t seem made to “correct” me if I picked up the wrong thing. What happens when I go off-road on the instructions?

I am super fascinated to see how #HoloLens2 can be applied to immersive theater and art exhibits. Fitting on all heads, glasses, no controller needed...seems like great testing ground.
