For years I am refusing to learn JavaScript because I despise the language. It is just a bitter taste to spend several hours to wrap my head around some JS code.

It's a sad day for : actix-web is dead. I am not feeling very good about our community today.

Who says Macs are immune to malware? I spent 20 minutes removing malicious enterprise profiles installed by spyware on a person in tech's Mac yesterday. If Chrome sends your searches to Bing or your new tab page says "search" in Google-esque rainbow colors, you've been got.

I feel like this is highly apropos for most academics I know. Achieving external metrics like N papers at top venues X, and Y won’t do what we thought it would when we first started down this path. For me, a focus on the success of current/past students made all the difference.

I probably have implemented the trickiest thing I have done *so far*. I guess I will just read The Night Watch and chill for the rest of the day.

    1. Focus on process, not outcomes. 2. Work should be guided by intrinsic motivation (which you can control), not external validation (which you can't). 3. Others will try to define "success" and measure you against their bar(s). Resist this trap; success is ultimately personal.

I'd like to share a cool recent result that will appear in : using support from a programmable switch, we can build a replicated storage system where read performance scales linearly with number of replicas, without sacrificing linearizability.

Was searching for a paper and stumbled upon the (completely unrelated) 'Columbia Basin Pygmy Rabbit Captive Breeding and Genetic Management Plan' (2006). I tell you this only because HOLY SHIT WOULD YOU LOOK AT HOW DAMN CUTE THIS RABBIT IS 😍😍😍

. this year is rejecting papers posted on arxiv because it breaks the double blind submission policy. That's quite unfortunate IMO

One of the weirdest C++ beliefs is that changing “Foo *” to “Foo &” and “foo->x” to “foo.x” suddenly makes all memory safety problems disappear.
