Trust me, IntelliJ is a waaay more capable IDE. They have the open source community edition, although you may end up paying for the Ultimate if you get hooked.

"get hooked" == need built-in JavaEE/JakartaEE features, so you have to pay (a lot) for it. I'd stick to NetBeans 11.1 or Eclipse 2019.06R builds.. Both are free and amazing IDEs too. MS Visual Code could be an Electron-based free option too.

True, IJ comes with a heavy price tag. Still, if you’re doing mostly Java coding even the community edition is probably your best choice vs Eclipse/Netbeans. It’s hard to compare stuff like VSCode because that’s more of an editor vs WebStorm which is an IDE (with a hefty $$).

Hi, just to make sure you've seen the price for individual devs and not for the organizations: it's $5.90/month or $59/year with a 20% discount after 12 months.

I just double checked the price of IntelliJ and that's still $649/year. (Couldn't see any individual dev pricing w/out re-registering my email.) Sounds pricey up-front but it's still less than the cost of cable! $54.08/month

See here for IntelliJ IDEA individual annual pricing: https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/buy/#personal?billing=yearly …. $149.00/1st year, $119.00/2nd year, $89.00/year onwards. It seems that the $649/year price you are referring is the "All Products Pack" for organizations.
