that feeling when logging into a slack instance and figuring out where to post an update about security things has the same complexity as a lawyer assessing jurisdiction and venue for standing to bring a case to court 🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣
Bugs, escalation of privilege, and worrying about persistence and roots — they’re all a part of trying to restore a healthy mix of California native wildflowers in the face of drought and invasive species, too 🌼

Furled poppy, surprise sidewalk poppy, furled poppies again, poppy
One of the coolest things about these flowers is that they’re extremely dynamic and in tune with the sun — on overcast days, the petals stay closed up as if they are an umbrella
Speaking of persistence, this year’s thistles are particularly prolific, and the taproots are unbelievable. Most of the open spaces in the area have to manually remove them, and they are particularly prickly and difficult.
Check out this California poppy, which grew from seeds thrown on New Year’s Day (before the endless rains). I counted at least 3 blooms that were preparing to pop 🌱🧡
The beginning of the poppy bloom — there are few things more persistent than the particularly invasive purple everlasting pea 🫛
(I’ve flagged the poppies so the gardeners will not cut them down, and I’m baking the good cookies for the gardeners to sweeten the deal)
Sunday wildflower tour, before the fire deadline hits and the gardeners come to mow everything down
First up, the last of the miniature lupine nestled in owl’s clover and foxtail grasses 💜🦉🌾
brb, there are two itty bitty fawns (smaller than the dogs!) wandering around the neighborhood and clearly i must spend the entire afternoon trying to get a picture of them without scaring them away
If anyone else is up to their neck in California native wildflower seeds, especially the specialized subset of nurseries and seed companies who are developing hyper local seed strains... please shout! Other hunts include one for a California blue oak to replace a heritage tree.
There are tons of vendors who sell California Poppy seed mix, but provenance or rather, origins is key here. I really want is the hyper local seed that was cultivated in the Diablos near the Calaveras Reservoir. Unless there is a magical Santa Cruz Mountain seed strain, of course
A master gardener and landscape architect pointed me to a local seed company, but it doesn't seem to exist anymore. The original vendor had come up during a very deep rabbit hole involving Calscape, UC Davis, and attempting to find a hyper local adapted strain of native seeds
Once upon a time, I stumbled on a wildflower seed vendor who had cultivated a strain of California Poppy seeds that are native to Santa Clara county. On the off chance that there's someone else who is attempting to grow a meadow -- anyone have an idea of where to look?
thanks to a surprise instance of "snake in the garage", i can never go in there and possibly the laundry room again even after i implement a multi-tiered risk management strategy designed to prevent reoccurrence

“Yes excuse me, what is this about the groomer on wheels arriving to give me a BATH today? YOU booked them in advance?! YOU KNEW?!
My compliance will require all of the snacks, half paid in advance tyvm”
(Yes, it is April and I have the fireplace on in the morning until the marine layer clears out around 11am. At start of business, it was a brisk 59 degrees in here which just will not do for a productive morning!)
The UK's online safety bill is an existential threat to safe & private communications
We're proud to stand with other encrypted apps to make it clear: mass surveillance isn't safety. Signal will never compromise the privacy commitments we make to people in the UK & everywhere♥️
Our position remains clear. We will not back down on providing private, safe communications. Today, we join with other encrypted messengers pushing back on the UK's flawed Online Safety Bill.
“Let’s luxuriate today like it is SATURDAY and I, youngest of the goodest boys in this realm, do not have to get out of bed until it is at least 11am. In exchange for this, I will deliver cute looks while basking in the sun. Deal?”
seriously at what point are the emoji just going to follow the email addresses on the account?! wasn't the point of technology that it makes things easier, more difficult?
oh wait i am a security engineer, there is always more work that no one told you about nevermind lol
the year is 2023, what do you mean that the party parrot emoji set does not come automatically installed in every new slack instance i am a part of by default?!?!?!
