The news moved on fast, but I needed time to process how the shooting in my neighborhood shattered our sense of safety in Asian American suburbia. Can we look beyond 'hate crimes' as a framework for justice? Here's my latest about it for .

I spoke to Ru'a Rimawi, whose brothers Jawad & Thafer were killed by Israeli occupation forces on Nov 29, 2021. Since then, Rimawi has been engaged in memorialization ritual that is as necessary as it is painful. My latest for

it wasn't the plan for me to do an intro, but as the ep came together it spilled out of me. i am worried it's corny, selfish, tacky but i think. if it was necessary to explain the fundamentals of sgv to this audience, then. i wanted to explain my particular sadness, too.

A lot is going on. If you have the capacity🙏, I would appreciate if you could take a moment to read more about some of the victims from Half Moon Bay. I’m glad I got to advocate for “eat bitter” (吃苦)as a cultural specific term published by

the new york times union is walking out today, yes; also down here in texas, a huge state with a major dearth of local coverage, the fort worth newsguild is on day 11 of a strike against mcclatchy which has revoked their health insurance and posted their jobs

Day 10 of our strike. Here are some wild policies @mcclatchy has proposed: 1) Parental Leave: the company insists people should have less paid leave depending on how they gave birth. Meaning staff would have to tell the company whether they gave birth vaginally or via c-section

we've got charts breaking down state-by-state restrictions* in gender-affirming health care and schooling, as well as current nondiscrimination protections: *(note: some of these laws may have passed, but not be in effect due to court injunctions.)
A hex map showing which states have passed laws restricting access to health care for trans youth. The categories listed in the key are "Has passed total ban," "Has passed partial ban" and "Has tried to or is trying to pass restrictions." As of November 2022, only Arkansas and Alabama have passed total bans. Arizona, Florida, Tennessee and Texas have passed partial bans.
Four hex maps showing which states have passed anti-trans laws centered on schooling, as of November 2022. Each map focuses on a subset of school-related laws: sports bans, parental disclosure laws, bathroom bans and curriculum restrictions. The categories listed in the key are "Have passed law" and "Has tried or is trying to pass restrictions."
A hex map showing which states ban discrimination against transgender people in housing, jobs and public spaces. As of September 2022, 21 states and D.C. ban discrimination.
