jessica is one of the only writers in which MULTIPLE PEOPLE I KNOW will simply DROP EVERYTHING to read her work when she publishes something new. no one is better at wading into the most unexpected corners of the internet yet still treating the people she talks to as human.

Strip clubs, sex parties, and BDSM dungeons, can all be found the depths of VRChat, if you know who to ask. Participation requires bluetooth sex toys, an open mind, and an avatar with genitals. (The orgies are optional). My latest @markyarm/@BuzzFeedNews tinyurl.com/5cp8pkab

"Nothing, Forever" scratches the same itch as "Twitch Plays Pokémon" did in 2014 and I will be taking no further questions at this time. (I talked to the creators of the never-ending AI Seinfeld show about ~tech~ and ~meaninglessness~ and ~Seinfeld~)

and finally, to round off the month (I know I spoke about this yesterday I do not care it is very good): on the tragic and mysterious shutdown of StripperWeb, a 20-year-old forum-and-digital-union for exotic dancers. Brilliant work.

I hate to draw more attention to this man (as if British people needed another reason to be ashamed of themselves) but and deserve recognition for their comprehensive archive of Tate incriminating himself in public.

Fascinating piece on the ethics of scambaiting influencers, who are often praised as heroes by their followers, but may be targeting innocent victims. Nuanced work from and with some hilarious quotes in there, too.

I will not know peace until someone exposes the person who killed this forum (This piece is absolutely brilliant, by the way. Only could knit together so many moving parts - the shutdown, conspiracy theories, big picture stripenomics, raw emotions - so seamlessly.)

After twenty years, the ubiquitous, storied Stripperweb forum is shutting down on February 1. No one knows why. I wrote about how the community has come together to archive their collective history and attempt to track down the forum's elusive owner. techcrunch.com/2023/01/31/str

She has also kept potroast's skeleton, and keeps splicing it into old videos of potroast so one minute you've got a cute cat video and then POW this appears. (Side note: the top comment on this video is "I think you roasted too long").
an image of a hand cupping the skull of the dead influencer cat, pot roast. you can kind of see the ribcage in the background. Overlayed with the caption "Nothing ever lasts forever (broken heart emoji" This is literally the wildest alt-text I've ever written

Starting the day with some very important news which is that the influencer who used to own the beloved TikTok cat potroast (RIP) now has a weird robot memorial version that she has dubbed "botroast"
An image of the creator with her botroast cat robot. The overlaid text says "Did you turn potroast into a taxidermy robot?". Underneath that, in smaller text, it says "That's a great question, let me think how... I want to answer this."

TikTok accepted millions in ad revenue from two companies that sell weight-loss products promising extreme results, violating its own policies and calling into question its commitment to body positivity. NEW from and me:

Another "I'm sliding into people's Reddit DMs today and can confirm I'm a real person and not catfishing you" tweet (the need for this always baffles me because if I was catfishing people I'd definitely pretend to be a far more interesting person, but here we are)

I'll legit send a message like "hey no pressure haha but can I get an update on X at somepoint in the future that is totally up to you haha sorry to be a pain ha" and still be dying inside bc I feel like I'm giving off this vibe:
it's an angry looking cow peering through a window. picture is taken from inside the window. cow is basically breathing on the glass. horrifying.
