    It’s known as a pushback, it’s dangerous & deemed illegal under international law.

    The Home Secretary has authorised the Border Force to turn boats carrying migrants back at sea to prevent them from reaching the UK.  The move is set to be opposed by the French authorities, who describe the technique as dangerous.

    It wasn't a specific piece of advice, but seeing examples of people who've sacrificed their health, friendships and relationships for their career made me realise... don't do that. (There also seem to be a lot of these examples in international reporting)

    This is pretty surprising to me, but I'd be interested to know how this question was phrased. "Free" is a pretty subjective feeling

    Germany, seriously, WHAT. THE. HELL?! Only 11 % (eleven!!!) of Germans say they feel free in everyday life, in terms of their ability to lead their life as they see fit. Germany is the only country polled that doesn’t have a majority saying they feel free or partly free.

    It follows on from this fawning interview and putting Greece at the top of its "soft power" list (no I don't know what that means either). No mention of increased police brutality, press freedom restrictions, or anti-migrant and anti-gender equality laws

    Monocle magazine has been increasingly reading like the Mayor of Athens' marketing campaign over the past couple of years and it's really, really weird. Claims like "a generation of diaspora talent are returning home" could do with some fact-checking.

    I've thought about this a lot – there'll be an avalanche of court cases and drama-filled memoirs in about 10 years

    The Nirvana baby thing brings to mind slightly what I’ve long thought about parent influencers who turn images of their children over to the internet without their consent which is: one day this will come back to haunt you.

    At once long overdue but also an incredible breakthrough. Given the amount of negationist content on these platforms re: the Bosnian Genocide, this is significant. Of course, enforcement will be key but it’s a major policy shift all the same.
