Thoughts on best structure(s) for governance post achieving sufficient decentralization? Feels like community governance system needs to be built into the application prior to full-scale decentralization to allow project to continue evolution/addition of services.

Agree its important to formalize governance before a token distribution, and maybe even pilot it with a subset of community members first. For example, cap table might get (locked) tokens to vote before a wider distributionl; presumably they're accredited so this is OK.

Do you have some good examples of P/M fit at the pre-launch stage? almost seems impossible? Even P/M fit of Ethereum and Bitcoin is regularly questioned. As a founder, this is _the_ defining problem I face.

Not at the application later that this post is addressing. Im encouraging teams launch and iterate quickly, in search of it.

To respond here, wouldn't apps primarily not be worried about assets as they exist solely as an abstraction layer on top of a protocol (has a token)? Example: a relayer vs 0x. I think if a centralized app abstracting components is killing it, there's no need to decentralize.
-
I agree. The post is specifically addressing applications built using smart-contracts. A better term for these might be dAPIs, as they’re really backends for devs to build user facing “apps” on top of.

Interesting framework, a few thoughts: 1) do you have examples in mind of a DApp/dAPI that can launch and build a user base without its own token, that can launch a token later? Seems the norm is that the token is the main value proposition for incentivizing community formation.

I think a great example is

Jesse, do you think at a high level that more centralized crypto teams will outcompete less centralized ones? A more centralized team can move faster, but faces issues building a viral community and eventually decentralizing NEAR vs Ethereum comes to mind
-
Depends on timing and product. Ethereum had a core team build it before it shipped, similar to where NEAR is today. Community building is important at every stage, its just a question of weighting and when to lean in. I'd argue smart contract layer applications can wait longer
