💚 Bob was a kind person who lived more life in 43 years than most would do in 430. I will miss him and his magic.

never say 'utilize' when you can say 'use'

people with deep knowledge use simpler language, people faking it distract with complex language

Here's the most awkward custom search function I've ever created: everyone you follow, who's also paid Elon $8 for a dodgy tick

"Unequivocally, we won't touch the Greenbelt...I've heard it loud and clear from people, they don't want me to touch the Greenbelt. We won't touch the Greenbelt."
Not only is developing the Greenbelt appalling. So is lying about it.
Be angry, Ontarians. Don't let it happen!

The people have spoken - we will maintain the Greenbelt in its entirety.

Whatever the opposite of “hardcore” 10x rock star dev is, that’s what I want.
cosycore, moving slowly, making things right, petting the dog, naps, staring out of the window pondering problems and drinking tea.

I realized this morning why the whole "Elon arguing with Twitter devs and firing them" brouhaha of the last few days has hit me on a physical level. It's because, as a senior IC dev, one of the most important aspects of my job is preventing crap like this. (Long 🧵incoming...)

If you've been sort of vaguely following the FTX / Alameda / Sam the Fried Bank Man thing, this article, describing their "balance sheet" and how the company's finances apparently worked, is INCREDIBLE.

Software projects (in particular) are notorious for having both high variance costs and benefits. Your job as a line manager is to reduce variance and increase confidence over time that the project will be successful.

Once you've got good branch protection, CODEOWNERS, and GitOps cultures in place for compliance, then add git signing for cryptographic integrity and strong security guarantees.
Pivit is our tool for doing git signing using hardware-attested PIV keys:

This is still true about climate. It’s also true about access to healthcare, civil rights, voting, democracy, and reproductive freedom.
Quote Tweet
People are always asking “what can I personally do to combat climate change?” and right now honestly the answer is “elect Democrats.” Because the GOP isn’t gonna move on this and we can’t wait for a third party to become electable before we act. (US-specific but can extrapolate.)

Infuriating story. Facts of this case:
1. An off-duty cop was drunk driving
2. His SUV drifted into oncoming traffic, hitting a motorcyclist
3. He fled the scene
4. The motorcyclist lost his leg and nearly died
He managed to avoid charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm

I feel like to many people don't recognise fascism because they think fascism will arrive selling oppression and tyranny, but if you're part of the privileged group fascism is selling you safety, normalcy, and tradition

This is the changelog: potential RCE or crash in name constraint checking. Happens after checking signatures, so requires the attacker to have a trusted certificate or the victim to skip verification.
Doesn't seem to affect servers that don't accept client certificates.

what's happening to Twitter right now is exactly why tech needs unions. it's not to protect our jobs or to make more money, but to have a say in the direction of the production of our labor. the point is to have power and use it for ends we believe in

I voted against Ford's new housing bill. It is underwhelming on supply, MIA on affordability and straight up dangerous on the environment. It does not meet the crisis we are in - I'll continue to push. Read my open letter to the Minister here. #onpoli

There is no credible case to be made that protecting wetlands - or the process associated with it - is ANY part of the reason for our housing shortage. There's a *vast* supply of designated greenfield area sitting unused, and MASSIVE untapped capacity in existing neighborhoods.

This morning, I got a leaked document detailing how Doug Ford was gutting conservation authorities - which oversee & protect watersheds - to build houses. @EmmaMci & I spent the whole day trying to understand and explain what's going on and why it matters
