This is a third-person account, rather than a first-person, but I think it is still a good fit for the thread:https://twitter.com/evepeyser/status/941526440792809472 …

I'd be interested in seeing a gender breakdown of the people begging Franken not to resign in that thread.

The only upside to the tax bill is it makes it much harder politically for the GOP to impose spending cuts. Typically “fiscal responsibility” was the cudgel they could use to justify cuts, but unclear that is on the table anymore.

Apologies. This tweet wasn't clear. My point is that a lot of formerly moderate wonks like myself are going to be comfortable with a far more hard left policy agenda.

Imagine writing a whole article built on the premise that antifa is wrongfully going after a bleeding heart libertarian without checking to see if the person was actually alt-right.

For most people, it isn’t political violence that is objectionable but violence that is understood as illegitimate because it comes from non-state actors. It’s not surprising, then, that anarchists, who reject state legitimacy, are open to violence as a tool of anti-fascism.

This is a good reminder that almost all decrying of political violence is selective. While non-state actors are urged to limit their activity to voter registration, states are given massive leeway to deploy violence against their enemies and lawbreakers.

Similarly, in this representative paper, he argues that terrorists who embed among civilians “should bear part of the onus for the resulting collateral damage”—i.e., the US can kill bystanders with impunity, as moral blame falls on the terrorists. https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2354033 … .

For example, in one piece he argues for the permissibility of Israel fire bombing of Lebanese cities, even though doing so will kill civilians. This is deemed justified insofar as it makes combatting Hezbollah more efficient. See:https://www.telesurtv.net/english/opinion/No-Israel-Should-Not-Flatten-Beirut-20160217-0016.html …

One of Etzioni’s hobby horses is arguing for the permissibility of an expanded use of violence in the fight against terrorism—particularly violence that foreseeably kills civilians.
