2/ It's a normal sequence: 1. Group makes a legitimate point about being treated fairly: In this case, trans people rightly insist that
3/ they not be misgendered, that their gender identity be respected. This is accepted as a new rule of the discourse, which is good. BUT
4/ then: 2. Other people realize that they can use this inviolable rule to their advantage, and begin insisting that it applies to them
5/ No one challenges them because the rule in question is something you *can't challenge people on*. Same thing happened w/harassment.
agreed. There are dysfunctional corners of the internet where calling someone "she" instead of "they" is a REALLY bad
if not violent act of misgendering. That's what I mean by people using these reasonable rules in dysfunctional ways
