Legit complicated issue but I am uncomfortable with someone potentially losing income from employers/sponsors over a statement like "in sports [biological sex vs gender identity] is a different matter for obvious reasons." Going after someone's livelihood is a REALLY serious steppic.twitter.com/OBcCenT5DW

What is so complicated about this issue? Sexual dimorphism is a thing. Women's sports exists precisely because women cannot meaningfully compete physically with men.* *on average, and especially at the high-end of athletic performance.

Let's accept, for the sake of argument, that what you say is true about women being unable to compete with men. That doesn't mean that the very small number of trans women (~0.5%) should be excluded from competing under the gender they are living their life as.

"Fake-transitioning" seems far-fetched. And sex is just one of many factors that can give someone a competitive advantage. There's nothing "fair" about sports in that sense; never any level playing field.

Notwithstanding the rest of the debate, is there's no real level playing field and sex isn't a huge factor, why have sex-segregated sports? Isn't the obvious solution to have everyone compete together or separate on the basis of gender identity?

Yes! There's been serious proposals along these lines. Just segregate sports into two divisions based on genetic factors like height, bone mass, muscle mass, etc., rather than gender. https://theconversation.com/why-it-might-be-time-to-eradicate-sex-segregation-in-sports-89305 …

Separating sport on the basis of "gender" or "gender identity" makes as much sense as separation by favourite flavour of ice cream or hairstyle. IOW, nonsensical.

It's women who have suggested it, actually. Specifically former gymnast Roslyn Kerr of the University of Otago and, separately, Professor Adrienne N Miller of the UK. Please don't be one of these people who tries to speak for women as a group, it's really obnoxious.
