1/ I don't think this is the right way to write about gender dysphoria that appears to be rapid-onset, how to understand GD when it's co-occurring with other symptoms, etc. etc. This article's most serious problem is that it seem to take at face valuehttps://www.wsj.com/articles/when-your-daughter-defies-biology-11546804848 …

2/ a bunch of mothers' claims that their kids HAVE, full-stop, "rapid-onset gender dysphoria." But this isn't an official diagnosis -- it's an idea that's being studied. It does appear to be the case that for some kids, the way they understand their gender ID, or their

Competent clinicians are aware of and ask about this stuff. It'spic.twitter.com/lLYbDMezQp

4/ "real" in the sense that yes, it seems to happen sometimes. But that's a far cry from a mom "diagnosing" her kid with a "condition" that is so controversial. You can't say for sure what's going on with these kids. That's why an article like this needs to be written more

5/ cautiously. It isn't a good idea for parents to decide, for sure, who their kid is and will be in the long run based on a few tumultuous months, a mental-health crisis, or whatever else -- when a young person is going through this sort of period, you shouldn't say "Yes, my

7/ ambiguity. PLEASE don't armchair-diagnose. I'd say "Find a competent gender therapist" but I think in most places there's a terrible shortage them and a lot of borderline-quacks setting up shop to meet rising demand. Check out this quote from Erica Anderson we had to cut for

So I guess all I can say is LOOK for a competent therapist, but tread carefully. But yeah -- this article is quite frustrating and does notpic.twitter.com/HLX9BrUkn0

If this isn't a new social contagion, where were all the trans female-born kids before? If they existed but couldn't trans (no treatment, too much stigma etc etc) why aren't they transitioning now, as adult women?
