At 1am I was like "Alright, let's check the first ten minutes of the Snyder Cut before bed". At 3am, halfway thru, I forced myself to turn it off out of self-preservation, but I coulda watched the rest. I'll finish tonight. It's, like, supremely interesting.

It's not a movie the way Terrance Malick does not make movies. It's not television, though it's closer to a limited series TV program than anything. It's definitely a film... it's a story told in dreams, like film should be... but mostly, it's Capital-C Content.

It's a lot of Stuff About Stuff, an amalgam of television and comics and movies and music and games. But... it works? Mostly? It's kinda the first thing on streaming I've seen that could only exist first as streaming content.

It's Wagnerian, expressionist, it is much less concerned with plot and character than it is with feeling and emotion. It's less of a super hero yarn and more of a collection of new myths and fables. Everyone but Bruce Wayne is a god.

It brings me no pleasure to report that the first half is a better Wonder Woman follow-up than '84. (And Gadot's Diana should never, ever appear in a film without The Music Cue again.)

There's a Nick Cave sync on-par with "All These Things That I've Done" in Southland Tales. I just felt insane watching it. The Batfleck is officially in the canon of What If We Got To See That Movie?

Is it good? Is it great? I dunno, I need to finish it first. It's definitely visionary (for better or worse, personal tastes depending), it's definitely interesting. There will be interesting things to think and write about this movie for a long, long time.

UGH. It’s great. Really is like a mythology, a bunch of smaller interlocking fables with a larger arc. The fatherhood theme, daaaaamn. Damn. I want Batfleck, Snyder’s Injustice, and Ray Fisher in the Flash. This future that has taken root is irksome.
