The future of manufacturing in Australia must address inequality, exclusion, environment. There is already a just and sustainable culture, but it is not visible and not supported by policy (yet).

My Dad's 'foreigner' made at a 2nd job [1st job fire officer] "The making of foreigners..[R]epresents a set of practices that value making and fixing over consuming, that value knowledge-sharing over corporate control, sustainably maintaining culture, resources and place."

This was David's toolbox. The tools of his trade. It melted in the fire that went through his property. You can read more of his remarkable story, and how even after losing so much, he's focused on helping others, here:

I've been thinking about the whole *arson* obsession some people have; and it's actually somewhat understandable. As a researcher, I've seen surveys of the public asking about wildfire risk and perception, and the answers they give are very different to the ones I would give.

After being told to arrive at 7.30am, Dad’s surgery didn’t start until 2.40pm. He was extremely patient despite the fasting. 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 Really hoping this does the trick for his horrendous nerve pain.

You have probably heard of the Currowan fire that is impacting communities on the South Coast of NSW. I want to tell you something about Currowan. In the late 1800s my ancestors were moved onto the Currowan Reserve on Currowan Creek, near the Clyde River.

Neoliberalism has killed regional industries, destroyed employment, shredded local services. People are angry about all of this. Sure it’s definitely not the Greens’ fault about that either, but in crude political understandings neoliberal = urban elite and no distinction is made

When angry marginalised ppl blame the “greens” they are looking to blame the elites who look down on them. It’s totally misdirected, I know, but it’s not actually about party policy, so responding that “it’s not the greens’ policy” has no cut-through

While I’m thoroughly enjoying the meme, just wanted to note that the sentiment in its raw angry state (not as used by trollbots) stands for “it’s the urban elites’ fault”, green doesn’t quite mean Green in the strict party sense. Thread below.

Without phone, internet connection the ONLY reliable communication we had left were the highway signs (generator operated) & ABC radio through the car. Otherwise we would have had no idea of where the fire front was, what roads were open etc. The telcos failed us but ABC did not.

Cashless society He says it has taken an hour and a half to navigate traffic heading north on the Princes Highway and there are almost no petrol stations open and those that are only accept cash. “But the ATMs are down, so you can’t get cash,” Bowers says.
