    For those who don't believe that values and ideology matter in US-China competition, it certainly seems to matter in the minds of Beijing's diplomats and propagandists.

    Wow. In the last week, Beijing's state media and diplomats on twitter have used "democracy" "summit" or related keywords more than 1K times. That's about 4 times as much as COVID, which often dominates. It's more than twice as often as keywords about the Olympics.

    Yes. Transparency with trusted researchers is essential to improving our collective understanding of a problem set most agree exists but few see the same way. This bipartisan bill is a good model that shows challenges around privacy etc. can be overcome.

    Senators Coons, Klobuchar & Portman have now released the "Platform Accountability and Transparency Act." Bill represents a critical first step toward opening a window onto big tech and understanding the impact of platforms on the information ecosystem

    Oohhh this is promising - I was just opining that support for anti-surveillance/authoritarian technologies is hugely underfunded.
