As a kid I had a little placard about my name and it said it was derived by the Irish word for spear. I remember it being something like "barragh" but Wikipedia says "beargh" so I dunno. Fionnbharrth is new to me, though.
Barragh is right, even if that’s the Anglicanised version (and beargh would be pronounced the same way). Barra’s a p/ common name here! Even in comparison to some Irish names the spelling of “fionbharrth” seems nonsensical though, the modern form of it is Finbar

As in, "he's a sharp kid, that one". What a compliment!
I just realised I did the same thing to the word “anglicised” that fionbharrth does to finbar, I’m so sorry for any additional confusion haha
