    As a trained scientist and a self-taught artist, the strongest commonalities I see between science and art are the ways they teach and enable us to understand the world around us. Drawing hard lines between the disciplines denies their overlap. Many great scientists were artists

    If you ever want to have a fun time, try grading 35 upper div. geometry assignments from people who've never used LaTeX before! :-) (if the students see this, it was genuinely a fun time but wow I'm exhausted it took me literally a week and so many hours)

    Math around math people: PROS: can get q's answered quickly, more opportunity for collaboration & friendship! CONS: usually 20 men breathing down your neck Math away from math people: PROS: no men breathing CONS: probably a lot, but i'm really enjoying this no men thing

    The skills you need to pass exams and the skills you need to do research are (very) different. So exam grades are a very poor predictor of how good you can be at doing science. (I was a B student at best)
