Amazing how underdiscussed this essay is. I guess it's because everyone accepts it as obvious and inevitable. People have resigned themselves to performative rebellion agaist daddy sama safe in the knowledge that he is securing our future.

Sam described the future where things gone well. But ppl are generally more concerned about risks. Who could think we’re gonna talk about war these days?!

Seems the subtext is pretty clear that whoever builds the first strong AI will prevent others from doing so. The dangers of proliferation are much greater than from nuclear weapons.

I actually think the reason it is under discussed is because it is written once: where as AI Twitter updates about Dall-e, PaLM, etc happen every day bc people constantly interact with these and discuss every new delta. People discuss news 100-100x more than old books/essays

It basically hasn't been discussed at all though? Even in places you might expect: hn.algolia.com/?q=moores.sama
Posted once when it was first written and that's it.

1000x undervalued and undertweeted. The text is at the same time deep, strong, fascinating and terrifying. It's a detailed closer look to the future coming.
