1/ His name is Virgil Griffith It was great fun to see everyone this week in NYC, but Iโ€™ll admit, I was walking around with a hole in my heart and a looming sense of dread. Virgilโ€™s trial starts this Monday. #FreeVirgil

Damn, I was hopeful reading 's summary earlier on twitter.com/stephendpalley Curious to hear Stephen's take on this sad outcome that seems totally insane - at least to the non US folks here

Remember Ethereum developer Virgil Griffith, arrested @ LAX for alleged violation of US sanctions against North Korea by attending a conf, there w/out US approvals? His motion to dismiss was just denied. Reading the order, tho, maybe not be an awful result. A brief thread๐Ÿ‘‡

What people commenting never realize is that Virgilโ€™s choice was not 0 days vs 6 years in prison. It was the rest of his life in prison vs 6 years. They gave Ross 2 lives + 40 years. I hate this system bc I would have pled *even if I never had talked to anyone in n korea*
