Similar easter egg / cheat code / trick is to arrange a double KO. Only verified this in stage 1 but if you deal the finishing blow at the same time you get laser blasted for your last remaining heart, you'll be revived in stage 2 with 5 hearts.

Easiest way to arrange this is just take some hits and when Mutant Ape has 1-2 health remaining, suicide machine gun the bananas to his dome as he's doing the Cyclops laser move on you.

Even easier on stage 4. Go to the safe spot on the very top left (or right), spam the bananas on the Mutant (he won't ever touch you) and once he has only 1 heart left, you throw a banana at him just after he's launched a rocket. He will die, but the rocket will eventually kill u
