One of the major problems w/ the evolution of "equity compensation" in tech is that too many professionals (consultants, finance, HR, etc) focus on the "compensation" piece & not enough on the "equity" piece.
Everyone who helps build a company should own part of the company.

Outside of Silicon Valley, people have zero understanding of stock options. Even within SV, it's very low and people barely understand how RSUs work. Unless you are an obvious rocketship, for most, it'll be looked at like a free lottery ticket but not part of total comp.
