Ideally, you would give points for all forms of difficulty enhancements taken on by all participants in the race. All candidates crossed the finish line to get in the door. Then you look back and adjust for difficulty of the course they took.

And adjust for where they were born, their parents IQ, whether they were both around, the speed of their internet connection, or lack thereof, whether or not other kids were mean to them in school, etc.. Just like Martin Luther King Jr. envisioned.
