The problem is that "I mistook gun for taser" is even an option. Why do you need to bring a gun to a discussion about missing tags? Leave it in the car. Why are cops handling basic welfare/fix-it issues at all? Parking enforcement gets by with pepper spray. Let them handle it.

Tasers look and feel different from pistols, and most police forces have protocols to prevent a mix-up. So how could the officer who shot Daunte Wright in Minnesota on Sunday grab her gun instead of her Taser, as the police chief said? nyti.ms/3uLVpEj

Fully agree. Cops bring a high threat level to every interaction though, which automatically raises the stakes. If the person pulled over knows you have the ability to arrest them or kill them, things are more likely to escalate. Cops anticipate the worst and respond out of fear.

But why does it have to be a gun fight? I've gotten plenty of tickets left on my car with no interaction with a cop, nobody taking my ID or looking inside my car. We have traffic cam technology that sends tickets in the mail. Traffic stops that can be escalated are too dangerous.

This was a wanted person for assalt & battery, this wasn't a "parking ticket" situation. Of course cops are scared for their lives (check what just happened in NM). The woman cop is 100% wrong but anytime you decide to fight the police you bring chaos into the situation

It all comes back to the traffic stop being able to be escalated to imprisonment or death. If the person has a warrant or has drugs, it puts them in a "me or you" situation. Because of this, every speeding ticket needs to be treated at the risk level of a murderer capture.
