Apple is setting folks up to be ripped off by pretending all the millions of apps in the App Store have been carefully vetted. You lower your guard when you think Apple's got your back, but they don't. Multi-million dollar scams go on for years, like this one.

This reminds me of the finding that American over-protected playgrounds aren't actually safer: “If children and parents believe they are in an environment which is safer than it actually is, they will take more risks.”
