I don't actually watch the show, my bad. If they're just doing this as a one-time thing then they're all good in my book, I apologize for jumping to conclusions!
I did some more research and the wired article isn't using correct numbers as far as what actual NFTs sales cost. The blockchain network itself is what creates a large carbon footprint the sales just piggyback off of it. It's not carbon neutral but not as bad as some articles say
To be clear, the blockchain doesn’t create a carbon footprint. Consumption of energy in the form of potatoes, donuts or electricity does not have any carbon impact. It’s the production of general purpose electricity which produces carbon.
