Can someone ELI5 why it matters where in the 4-year term a Supreme Court nomination occurs? The risk of it happening in the 4th year was presumably already accounted for when the rule was made.

The republicans stole the last one saying you had to wait. This time they say no wait so they can steal this one too.

Why is it even up for debate? It’s not 5 years or 3 years, or some other tricky rule. Maybe the last president did allow his pick to be stolen but that’s on him. How long does this go on? Why does the next president get the blame and why should he be forced to give up his right?

Last time they controlled the senate and made up the “rule”.
This time they say there is no rule.
If they confirm her, it will be 6-3 or 5-3 in every vote for the rest of our lives.
There is no official number of justices. It’s very possible 2-4 more will be added.

It will go on forever and the worse one side acts, the worse the other side will be forced to act in return.
They seem to think after ACB and 6-3 they get Roe, they kill Obamacare and they roll America back to pre-FDR days.
Seems more likely they went for too much. Blowback.

Slippery slope. The Senate can also decide to add SCOTUS judges, legally. Just because you can something doesn’t make it right.
